The Hand Lettered Edition
Spring has sprung and I spent the last few days amid beautiful cherry blossoms in historical Washington, D.C. Our kids had a wonderful educational experience, from monuments, museums, and memorials to the National Portrait Gallery and even the International Spy Museum. We all had a great time.

The new additions this week are all about communication. I like offering sample letters for all kinds of situations, because I know how hard it is to get started on wording important messages, especially when it involves something stressful. There are 26 new resignation letter templates at ResignationLetters.biz. Also, I’ve added 24 new hardship letters to LetterOfHardship.net. The hardship letters are helpful in a variety of tough situations relating to finances, health, and more.
Resignation Letters
Whether you’re giving someplace the casual brushoff or want to create a legal paper trail, you’re probably going to need to put it in writing in the form of a resignation letter. ResignationLetters.biz has 159 templates that will get you started.

The 26 new letters at the site cover such diverse situations as leaving a job due to medical issues, resigning from a volunteer position, and education-related resignations. There’s also a letter for resigning from a board of directors and a letter to a religious leader formalizing one’s exit from a church.

If you want to give a reason for resigning for a job, there’s a new batch of letters that reference a new position, an illness, a branch transfer, a promotion, lack of contract renewal, and temporary jobs. There are also a couple of letters for withdrawing one’s resignation. A few of the letters are designed for accepting someone else’s resignation.

I’ve added a new category of letters due to many repeated requests, but they come with a caveat: some of the new letters submit one’s resignation with a negative tone, or state reasons for leaving that could come back to bite the sender professionally.

We don’t recommend this type of bridge-burning in the professional world, so please use these letters with care and only in extreme situations. These letters include resignations due to changes within the company, salary issues, vacation policy, and insurance problems.
In a related vein, I’ve also added a new article to ResignationLetters.biz with tips on what an employee should usually leave out of a resignation letter.

All of the letters are free to download in DOC form, edit in Microsoft Word, and print.
Hardship Letters
A hardship letter is often the best approach when you need financial or other special consideration in an unusually difficult situation. And, since wording is so important in these crucial cases, a letter template is a great starting point. Most of the two dozen new letters at LetterOfHardship.net relate to medical or academic issues.

There are new academic-related letters for seeking a fee waiver for college admissions tests, an application fee waiver request, and a letter for when circumstances merit transferring a child to another school.

The new medical letters cover seeking a doctor’s appointment, reduced pricing for prescription medicine, a cash payment discount request, and an extension of therapeutic treatment.

I’ve also added 14 letters of appeal. These are for cases such as insurance coverage denials, disability matters, authorizations, billing errors, and out-of-network treatment requests.

Like the resignation letters, the hardship letters aren’t necessarily intended to be used exactly as is (though you’re welcome to do so.) Instead, consider them a baseline from which to craft letters to suit your specific situation. The site also has articles with tips on letter-writing.

LetterOfHardship.net has 164 letters for all kinds of situations. Each is available to download instantly as a DOC file, or just cut and paste the wording from the site.

Thanks for your emails and ideas for new printables. I appreciate you, and have much more on the way this spring and beyond. Happy printing!
