Kevin's FreePrintable.net news
Wordsmith Edition
I watched the Academy Awards on Sunday night and and I enjoyed a lot of the performances and presentations. I even got a few ideas for my InstantMonologues.com site. Besides movies, my wife and I really like Broadway musicals, and especially Neil Patrick Harris. My favorite part of the Oscars, though, was when someone mentioned “Voxels” as part of the production process. Voxel is the name of one of our family cats; his sibling is Pixel. Pixel plus volume equals Voxel.

OK, on to new printables! I’ve improved the selection at both OpenOfficeTemplates.com and LibreOfficeTemplates.net, which have printables specially formatted to those open-source solutions. And FreeWordSearch.net has surpassed 2,500 puzzles.

OpenOffice Templates
For people who don’t want or can’t afford Microsoft Word, open source solutions such as OpenOffice and LibreOffice can be lifesavers. Or at least time and money savers. Many of the DOC files at my various FreePrintable.net sites also work with Google Docs and other DOC-compatible programs. But to ensure seamless use of my most popular forms, certificates, letterhead, and other printables with Word’s open-source counterparts, a couple of years ago I launched OpenOfficeTemplates.com and LibreOfficeTemplates.net.

I’ve just added 38 new hand-picked forms to both sites, so there are now 161 templates to choose from, all free. These forms are already in ODT or ODS format, so they will “play nice” with OpenOfficeTemplates.com and LibreOfficeTemplates.net.

The new forms include certificates for school and work, teachers printables (such as grade book paper), family trees, and resume templates.

There are also several new medical forms, fax templates, budget worksheets, invoices, and to do lists and planner pages. This set of additions is a nice mix of the most-used forms I have to offer.

Again, everything at these two sites is free to download and print. Just open in OpenOffice or LibreOffice and type into the templates to customize them to your needs.
Word Searches
FreeWordSearch.net is one of my sites that can be used for learning, or just for fun, and often both at the same time. Site users have been sharing word search puzzles they’ve created at the site since its launch in 2011. FreePrintable.net picks (or, to use the latest buzzword, “curates”) the best puzzles and has posted 2,546 to the site so far.

It’s free to print any existing word search, or to create your own with the word search maker. Just name your list, type in the words you want, and choose from four sizes and four difficulty levels.

Or, pick from puzzles in categories as varied as Animals, Famous People, Just For Kids, Literature, Music, Technology, and many more.

The newest additions were made to the history word search category, including Classical Greece, the U.S. Post-Civil War Reconstruction Period, the original Thirteen Colonies, and the Renaissance. Other new word searches focus on various holidays.

You can also view the answer to any posted puzzle in just one click. The puzzles print instantly and are great for school, home, or for businesses to set out as kid-friendly activities. I’ve also noticed that a lot of people use word searches as study aids. Many people who use this site also like my site, PrintableFlashCards.net, with its ready-made cards as well as a custom flash card maker.

Thanks for reading my award-winning (just kidding but it should) newsletter. Please keep sending me your ideas for new printables. Happy printing!
