You Do the Math
Even though I'm a nerd, I've never been a math nerd. The numbers and formulas and stuff don't really come together for me like they do for some people, and whatever math prowess I did have began to tank around 7th or 8th grade. I didn't even like playing the math games on my home video game systems in the 1980s, or Speak & Spell's boring twin, Speak & Math. I even devised a way to interrupt the math drills they made us do on TRS-80s in my middle school's computer lab. (You can read all about that in my book, Terrible Nerd.) So, while I impress upon my kids the importance of trying their best at all subjects, I personally appreciate math shortcuts like this new site I've launched: www.AsAFraction.com. It's not really a printable site, just a useful little tool for number-to-fraction conversion.

I also have a new printables site to announce! It's www.WritingTemplates.net , with lined templates in all kinds of shapes and themes, ready for kids to practice their penmanship and creativity. Plus, I've added a bunch of new thank you letters to www.ThankYouLetter.ws.
Writing Templates
When children are first learning to write they need two things: creative inspiration and something designed for them to write upon. My newest site, WritingTemplates.net, helps with both of those. With its 106 free printable writing templates, this site has lots for teachers and homeschooling parents to choose from for many topics and seasons.

There are alphabet writing templates showing each letter in bold in the upper-left corner of a horizontal sheet of lined penmanship paper. I've also included templates shaped like animals, food, or objects and filled in with wide-rule lines.

Some of the templates have a "prompt" in the form of a title, month of the year, or seasonal illustration, making it easy to fit into a lesson plan about music, favorite foods, a holiday, and other subjects.

The Instructional Templates category includes illustrated, numbered sheets in which students can detail, in their own words, how to perform tasks such as making a sandwich or telling time. They're great for helping kids organize their thoughts and build reading comprehension.

This new site is a complement of sorts to the other teacher- and learner-friendly sites I have, such as www.TeachersPrintables.net, www.PrintablePaper.net, www.PrintableFlashCards.net, FreeWordSearch.net, and many other FreePrintable.net sites.

Each of the 100-plus templates can be downloaded individually as a PDF file for free. If you'd like the convenience of accessing the entire writing templates collection in one download, that option is just $20.
Thank You Letters
Traditional paper (not emailed) thank you notes will never go out of style. But thanks to modern technology and my site, ThankYouLetter.ws, you don't have to start from scratch when composing a note. There are 140 sample thank you letters at the site for all kinds of situations, from gifts to personal favors to business gestures.

I've just added 15 new letters, including a belated thank you for a party, a note thanking an employee, a simple thanks for entering a contest, thanks from a business owner for a positive (or, on the flip side, a negative) review, and several more.

While many of the letters are lighthearted, some are more serious in tone, and it's in these situations that it can be most difficult to find the right words. Consider these letters a starting point for crafting your own heartfelt letter. I've included a birth mother and adoptive parent thank you letters in the new batch, as well as thank you notes related to organ donation.

Other categories at the site include thanks for scholarships, baby showers, birthday gifts, business and consumer situations, volunteering and donations, graduation gifts, hospitality, job interviews and references, medical services, personal kindness, expressions of sympathy, wedding gifts, and words of appreciate toward teachers. There are also several articles with tips on how to craft a thank you letter.

Simply download the letter template that most closely suits your situation, and type into the document to customize it. Or, just copy and paste the text directly from ThankYouLetter.ws. All of the letters are free.

Thanks again for all your ideas. I'm so excited to have launched two new sites this week. Please keep those emails coming and happy printing!
