This weekend I took the kids to Maker Fair, an exhibition by people who create interesting things. We had a great time - the girls made jewelry out of capacitors and resistors, looked at 3-D photos, built paper rockets that actually flew, and watched robots play basketball (!) The highlight for me was probably watching the giant trebuchet - a kind of a catapult - fling watermelons hundreds of yards to a satisfying splat. Or maybe it was seeing someone use liquid nitrogen to make ice cream. No, it was playing the xylophone made entirely of glass. I can't decide; all of it was fun. A good time was had by all (as evidenced by the photo of my daughter CQ, below.)
Also! I have an exciting pre-announcement - I've written a book, a personal memoir about my love of technology. It will be out in just a few weeks - I'm so excited about this. I'll let you know more as it gets closer from being an actual thing on paper that you can read.Plus, this is a special, kid-oriented issue of the FreePrintable.net newsletter. I've added 50 new dot-to-dot puzzles to DotToDots.net, and there are 30 new paper dolls at PrintablePaperDolls.net. Share with kids you love, or channel your inner child.

New Dot To Dot Puzzles
|
Get out your pens, pencils, and crayons. I've added 50 new dot-to-dot puzzles to DotToDots.net. They're all free, which makes them perfect for home, school, day cares, and more. I've heard from business owners who like to set out a selection of dot-to-dots along with coloring pages at restaurants, in waiting rooms, and so on.With these puzzles, kids can practice their number and letter skills while indulging their creative side as they color in the resulting pictures. There are several new butterflies to connect and set to flight, along with various cats that reveal themselves as the dots are connected.
Other new dot-to-dots include: airplanes, an armchair, birds, birthday balloons, hands, origami shapes, a penguin, a sea horse, squirrels, sports, cars, Halloween designs, dinosaurs, a pirate hat, a dog, and more. From flowers and holidays to toys and transportation, there are more than 440 connect the dots puzzles to choose from at DotToDots.net.While the dot-to-dots are all free to print individually, there's also the option to conveniently download the entire dot-to-dot collection for $9 - a handy option for schools and businesses who would like to keep the puzzles on hand to print and copy again and again.

New Paper Dolls
|
Paper dolls are a classic creative diversion for children (and even grown-ups) that goes back generations. I've continued to add to PrintablePaperDolls.net since its launch last year, and I just put 30 new doll designs up on the site. There are now 120 paper dolls, clothes, hairstyles, and accessories to choose from.
Ballerina and fairy paper dolls are super-popular (my 5-year-old daughter loves them, too), so I've added more of those, plus extra leotards or tutus or whatever they call those dancer outfits. On the flip side, I've had lots of requests for more boy paper dolls, so I've added several new styles of boys and their clothes. There are new Christmas paper dolls as well as female sports dolls. As for clothes, I've added both short and long skirts, plus two full pages of hair styles to switch up the dolls' looks.
While many of the dolls and outfits at PrintablePaperDolls.net print in full color, this week's new additions are all colorable paper dolls, ready for a child to customize with colored pencils, crayons, or markers. As with the dot-to-dots, I also offer the paper dolls as a collection. For $9, you can instantly download all 120 designs. That makes it even easier to print and reprint your child's favorite dolls and outfits. If you'd like extra-durable dolls, consider printing them on cardstock, or even laminating them. Have fun!
Thanks for all your fun and helpful emails. I appreciate your suggestions more than you know. Please look forward to new printables in the coming months. Happy printing!
