FreePrintable.net news

May 10, 2011
Hi from Kevin at FreePrintable.net, where a busy printer is a happy printer.

The weather here in Portland has been clearing up, so we're out and about more. Last week, I played glockenspiel in the Get a Life marching band at the Loyalty Days parade in Long Beach, Wash. I also got to jam with complete strangers, "instaband" style, playing Wooly Bully and other classics. I love stuff like that! What do you love? Free printables, of course. Just this week, I've added a selection of new time cards to PrintableTimeCards.com. And I've introduced two new sections to InstantResumeTemplates.com: resume objectives and skills matrices. Please keep reading; I explain all.

» Printable Time Cards
Are you a small business owner, freelancer, or someone else who needs to keep track of work hours? PrintableTimeCards.com has dozens of time cards to download and print, from weekly to monthly to project-based, as well as versions with one, two, or four cards per sheet of paper. I've just added 12 new cards to the selection.

The new time cards include sheets on which to report work for specific jobs, such as home health care, sales, and cleaning. There are cards for shift work, cards with room to note the location where the work was performed, and cards with bubbles to fill in for AM or PM work. I've also added two variations of truck drivers' logs.

There are two versions of almost all of the time cards: a free PDF that you can print out and write on in pen, or an editable DOC that can be opened and customized in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, or another compatible program. The DOC version, which costs $7 per time card, is perfect for workers who prefer to fill in a time sheet on a computer, or for business owners who want to put their company name on the time sheet, change details, or otherwise add to it.

Besides being extremely convenient, these time cards are huge timesavers.

» Resume Objectives; Skills

I recently added two entirely new types of printables to InstantResumeTemplate.com: resume objectives and skills matrices. These resources, while often key in job searches and hiring, take a little explaining.

Resume objectives are simply examples of the type of sentence or short paragraph that a job hunter can use to highlight his or her goals (or skills). This objective is usually placed at the top of a resume, but can also be used in a cover letter, in a job application, or online on a person's website, the social networking site LinkedIn, and so on.

There are more than 15 resume objective examples, along with articles about how to write and use them. I've included same text for a wide range of industries, from the medical field to computers to accounting. The articles explain how to use resume objectives to help land a job or further your career. You can copy and paste to use the examples as-is, or to jump start a resume objective that more closely suits your situation.

Skills matrices are simple tools for gauging the abilities and worth of your employees or potential employees. A skills matrix is a table that outlines the employees or interviewees in one column, along with certain skills you expect a person in a certain position to have. For each skill, you can make an "X" or a check. Or you may choose to use a ratings system, and give the person a 1-5 for his or her ability in that particular area.

For instance, a skills matrix for your IT department might have categories such as "database administration" or "support." Your employee, Joe Schmo, is fantastic at database administration, so you would put a "5" in that box. Maybe he's only so-so at support, so you would give him a "3" there.

The simplicity of the skills matrix makes it easy to glance at and know exactly what you're getting from each person, and it also can help managers decide who should handle a particular work project.
And, of course, there are still 100 excellent, formatted resume templates to download and print - everything on InstantResumeTemplates.com is free!

I am working feverishly on adding even more printables! Please keep sending me your ideas. I promise to keep creating new sites, but I always like to add to existing sites as well. Thanks and happy printing!

  » Kudos

I love it when people write in to let me know which specific printables have helped them out. I got this note from Leslie, who has been using BusinessFormTemplate.com: "Just wanted to say a big 'thank you' for providing your printables. I used the vehicle bill of sale today, but it's not the first time that I have turned to your site when I needed to print something. You make me look like I know what I'm doing! Keep up the great work." Thanks so much, Leslie!
