Hi from Kevin at FreePrintable.net, where a busy printer is a happy printer.

I'm here in Portland, Oregon, my family's new home! We are loving it, from exploring our new neighborhood to getting the house set up. I hope you'll understand that because we're still basically living out of boxes and I haven't fully set up my office, I didn't get any new printables up for you this week. I'll be adding more next week, I promise! Also, my 13-year-old is about to start her first day at a new school. I am so amazed by her! She is excited, not at all worried about being "the new girl." Wow, summer just blew by. Some of my friends' kids have already started the school year, and my teacher friends are putting the last-minute touches on their classrooms and lesson plans. In this issue of the newsletter, I'm highlighting some of the free printables at TeachersPrintables.net and PrintablePaper.net as well as printables relating to the Labor Day holiday coming up this Sept. 6.

» Back to School Printables
It was a couple of years ago that I realized that so many classroom teachers were making great use of the certificates, printable paper, coloring pages, and other free printables at various FreePrintable.net sites that it made perfect sense to add a new site especially for teachers, homeschooling parents, and students: TeachersPrintables.net. There, you can find blank lesson plans, attendance charts, grading sheets, seating charts, graphic organizers, classroom management tools, parent communication forms, hall passes, test forms, templates, lunchbox notes, and more. There are also more than 740 printables at PrintablePaper.net, including all kinds of graph paper, lined paper, story paper, score sheets, and more. Here are the links:

Everything at PrintablePaper.net is free to download and print in at least one format (PDF and/or .DOC for Microsoft Word). In some cases, the editable .DOC version costs a few dollars. I set up TeachersPrintables.net so that each item can be downloaded and printed for free, in PDF or fully editable .DOC (Microsoft Word) form. As I'm sure you know, teachers don't have big budgets, and spend a lot of their own money to get their classrooms set up, so I wanted to make it as affordable as possible. Still, many teachers and administrators opt for the classroom or whole-school license option, which conveniently lets them download all of the more than 150 printables from the site at once, save them, and access them to use again and again. The license is just $27 for a single classroom or $67 for an entire school, regardless of size! The cards are designed to work with Microsoft Word, but might work with some other .DOC-compatible word processing programs as well.

» Labor Day Printables

This year in the United States, Labor Day will fall on Sept. 6. Most students get a day off school, and many employees get a day off work. But not everyone keeps in mind exactly what Labor Day is intended to honor: the hard-working people who live in the U.S., along with the workers' rights fought for and attained by organized labor groups. For teachers, homeschooling parents, or anyone who wants to recognize this holiday (first celebrated in 1882) by helping children and others understand the impact of workers on the nation as a whole, here are links to some job-themed coloring pages that are appropriate for Labor Day. There are pages depicting skilled and industrial laborers, professions such as firefighters and police, and farm-related coloring sheets.

Several of you emailed me this week to let me know how much you appreciated the new grocery lists at FreePrintableGroceryList.com. There are lists especially for people shopping with special food requirements, as well as new formats and menu planners. Sharron wrote: "These are really fabulous grocery lists, Kevin. Thank you so much. My husband does the shopping and has for a few years now because I have a few medical problems. It is so good to be able to see a list. Generally I just tell him to get what he wishes but I have a few food limitations and now I am able to see the whole spectrum of foods that are available to me. I was surprised to see how many foods I had forgotten."
