FreePrintable.net news

November 10, 2009
Hi from Kevin at FreePrintable.net, where a busy printer is a happy printer.

Hola, fans of imprimibles. (That's "printables" in Spanish!) By the time you read this, I'll be on my way to Spain where I've volunteered to teach conversational English to Spanish businesspeople. I'll be there for about a week and a half and I'm really looking forward to the experience. I've been busy here at home, though, getting new printables ready for you. I've added 35 new stationery designs to FreePrintableStationery.net, based on user requests ranging from Apple to Zebra. And in this issue of the newsletter I'd also like to highlight printables that are especially appropriate for Veterans Day, which is tomorrow, Nov. 11.

» New Printable Stationery
I recently added nearly three dozen stationery designs, all free and all in full color, to FreePrintableStationery.net. There are several holiday designs, perfect for your Thanksgiving, Christmas, or winter letters. Autumn leaves and apples are among the other seasonal choices. Besides letter-writing, you could use the stationery as bordered paper for fliers to help spread the word about holiday bazaars, school programs, and other events. There are also new military-themed designs and two patriotic American flag stationery templates. Three designs read "Thank You" and are beautifully illustrated. And, by popular demand, there is now stationery with designs including: barbecue, beach, sports (including basketball and baseball), clouds, fairies, Halloween, and hearts. Several new religious-themed stationery templates round out the selection. There are now a whopping 240-plus designs to choose from! See the new stationery here:

The stationery is all free and downloads in .DOC (Microsoft Word) form, with both lined and unlined versions. Just type right into the template, or print it out and write by hand.

» Veterans Day Printables

Veterans Day is celebrated each year on Nov. 11. This U.S. holiday was originally established by President Woodrow Wilson in the wake of World War I as Armistice Day. In 1954, under President Dwight D. Eisenhower, it was officially changed to Veterans Day, honoring all who have served, yet dedicated to the "cause of world peace." Teachers, parents, and veterans' groups can find many patriotic printables and other designs appropriate for this special day. They include the new American flag and military-themed stationery mentioned earlier in this newsletter as well as certificates and coloring pages. Here are just a few of the printables appropriate for Veterans Day:

Thanks again for sending in your ideas for new printables. I have many more I'm adding for the holidays, plus all-new sites. Also, do you have a printing or printables question you'd like to see answered here in the newsletter? Just let me know!

  » Kudos
I think it's great when people take a minute to let me know about a specific printable that helped them out. The other day, I got this nice note from PrintableSigns.net user "M," who wrote: "What a great website! Love it! Just printed a recycle sign for my recycle bin!"

  » How to Resize Printables

Have you ever found a great printable at FreePrintable.net, only to wish it was a different size? For example, you want the stationery to be closer to quarter-sheet notepaper size, or you prefer a mini-sized version of a .PNG coloring page. You can usually "tell" your printer to resize a printable .DOC file to 4-by-6, 5-by-7, and other common dimensions. Choose Print and look for "Scale to Paper Size." Or, look in the Properties drop-down menu for "Size is." Just be sure you have the right paper tray selected and loaded with suitable paper or cardstock. You'll probably want to confirm the resized printable's appearance using Print Preview, which is found under the File menu on both a PC and a Mac. In a PDF viewer such as Adobe's free Acrobat Reader, you can change the paper size in the Print Setup dialog box. Or, in the Print box, changing Scaling to Multiple Pages Per Sheet is an easy way to get two half-size PDF printables per page. It's also possible to resize some printables using an image editing program. You can change 8 1/2 x 11" .PNG printables (such as coloring pages) to common photo sizes using free Picasa, Microsoft Picture Manager, or similar programs. In a higher-end image editing program such as Photoshop Elements, try the "Scale" function, or, for more precision, click on Image, Resize, Image Size. Be sure to check "Constrain Proportions."
