FreePrintable.net news

April 21, 2009
Hi from Kevin at FreePrintable.net, where a busy printer is a happy printer.

Do you have any special plans for Earth Day, April 22? I'll be spending Saturday with my older daughter pulling non-native weeds and ivy from the local state park (Patrick's Point). This will be our third year joining the local Girl and Boy Scout troops in this important effort. But of course we shouldn't think about conserving resources just one day of the year. In this special Earth Day edition of the newsletter, I'd like to give some tips on how to get the most out of your paper use as well as share some Earth Day-related printables.

» Printables Save Paper
One of the things that I find especially rewarding about offering free printables is the fact that using your home or office printer to print business cards, stationery, gift tags and so on actually ends up saving paper. That's because you only print what you need, when you need it. None of that buying a whole pack of graph paper or day planner refill pages when you only need two sheets. Also, not having to make special trip to the stationery store saves gas, not to mention time - another valuable resource. Here are just a few of the nearly 40 printables sites I've created:

There are other ways you can help the Earth when you choose to print from your home or office. Nowadays, there are so many varieties of recycled papers to choose from, including top-quality papers and cardstock sheets that don't even "look" recycled. And be sure to keep a special bin handy in which to recycle discarded office paper. In my family we have a house rule: Never throw away (or recycle) any sheet of paper that only has printing on one side. If it's not mangled in any way, you can simply load that paper back into your printer and use the reverse side! We all have those inevitable misprints, as well as "extra" pages that spit out with only one line on them. Of course, be mindful of reusing paper with personal information or business secrets on it.

» Earth Day Printables
If you're looking for a fun activity for kids this Earth Day, how about some Earth-themed coloring pages? I'll be looking at the Weather, Plants and Ocean categories at FreeColoringPages.net when I print out coloring pages for my 2-year-old this Earth Day.

Thank you so much for all the kind compliments you've been sending my way. I was so gratified to get this email from Pastor Pauline C.: "Thank you, Kevin, for your FreePrintable.net site. Your website pulled me out of a Saturday night panic. I needed baptism certificates and you had them; they were great."
