FreePrintable.net news

Hi from Kevin at FreePrintable.net, where a busy printer is a happy printer.

Now you can print money directly from the Internet! Don't worry. I'm not pitching you some scheme and I'm not on my way to the slammer. It's just the latest site in the FreePrintable.net family: PrintablePlayMoney.net. Yes, it's all in good fun - several variations of fake money for playtime and learning, ready to instantly download and print to your computer for free. Also this week, I've unveiled a second new site: HowToType.net. There, you can quickly see computer keyboard shortcuts to all the popular symbols, accents and other special characters.

» Printable Play Money
When children first start to learn how to count denominations of money, the easy, fast and fun method is to turn it into a game. Hand them a fistful of bills and let them loose. Before they know it, kids are adding, subtracting and even making change. That's how it worked with my older daughter. And judging by how my 2-year-old loves to play "store," it's a sure bet this technique will be a winner with her as well. My new site, PrintablePlayMoney.net, includes several variations on play money, all free to instantly download and print. There are full-color bills with whimsical graphics of children's faces available as both standard-size and easy-to-handle oversized bills. And, for more realistic play and learning, there are bills that look very much like real $1, $5, $10, $20, $50 and $100 bills - complete with the appropriate presidents' faces. (I just tweaked the details a bit so we're on the right side of the law!).

The bills print in PDF form (easily viewed and printed with Adobe Acrobat's free Reader), and there are several bills on each sheet. You can opt for all of one denomination or assorted bills, and print as many as you'd like. Just cut them apart and start playing, err ... learning. I like to print the play money on cardstock so it's a little sturdier. In a classroom setting, you might even want to consider laminating the bills. Fake money is also great for grownups headed to a gaming tournament, fundraiser or other event.

» Type Special Characters
I've been there too: You're cruising along on your article, school paper or blog post and all of sudden you screech to a halt. You've run into a special character, unfamiliar accent or a weird bit of punctuation and you don't know how to "tell" your computer what you really want to put out there. Now there's my new site, HowToType.net. Need to make a tilde, accent mark or upside-down question mark for a project in Spanish? HowToType.net will show you the keyboard shortcuts on Windows, Mac OS and in HTML. How about the copyright symbol, pi, foreign currency or even a little heart, spade, diamond or club? No need to go hunting around. This site has the instructions for hundreds of these all well-organized in one convenient location:

Thanks for all the great ideas that help me bring new sites and new additions to you. Thanks, too, for subscribing to the FreePrintable.net newsletter. I have even more new sites and additions on the way!

This week I was flattered by this compliment from a fan of FreePrintableCertificates.net: "Thank you so much for your wonderful certificates! I have found so many I could use, and they just look wonderful when printed out. I am using them for my graduating class, and I'll save the file to re-use again and again, so they are very economical. Thanks again for all that you do!" -- J.L.
