Hardship Letters

For more than 10 years, LetterOfHardship.net has helped people with sample letters for all types of tough situations. With the latest additions, there are now more than 360 letter templates, each free for your personal use.

These examples can help you find the right words for a variety of personal, financial, academic, and court-related situations. (Of course, be sure to consult an attorney if you need one.)

The letters provide a jump-start. Simply type into a template to customize the wording to suit your situation. This new batch includes hardship letters for: credit repair, ATM surcharges, and bank overdraft and maintenance fees. There’s also a letter for appealing a car repossession.

I’ve added even more hardship letters related to academic matters. There are letters for high school counselors to explain grades or family circumstances to a college. For college applicants, there are example letters of enthusiasm and continued interest. There’s also a financial aid letter related to 529 plan losses. Rounding out the school-related letters is a fraternity housing contract release.

There are a couple of new letters related to mortgages, such as petitioning to defer a home equity loan payment, or to defer a mortgage payment without late fees being applied.

Some of the sample letters address specific causes of hardships, such as events that by their nature result in the loss of time, money, or a place to live.

There are two new letter templates for incarcerated persons to request a prison transfer to be closer to home, or due to medical needs. One of these letters is already one of the top five most-downloaded letters at the site.

LetterOfHardship.net also has letters related to the pandemic, appeals, waivers, medical issues, and other hardships.

Each template at LetterOfHardship.net can be downloaded in DOC format, or simply cut and paste the text directly from the site. You’ll also find articles with tips on how to write a hardship letter. Popular Printables

You’ve probably got a lot on your plate this time of year. Same! I decided to take a look at what’s being downloaded the most at my to-do list site.

The most popular list is, as usual, a simple, lined checklist. A two-column list is also popular, as is a list with numbers from 1 to 100. A sheet with six blank lists on one page is hot, too.

The most popular complex lists are a weekly cleaning checklist and a decluttering list.

The Top 15 also includes: a day planner, a colorful weekly to-do list, a task-based to-list, and a weekly “Everything” to-do list. Rounding out the most-downloaded are: a floral list, a master to-do list, a priority matrix, and a couple of day planners.

I expect holiday lists will be at the top soon.
